What did Spanish missions promote to American Indians?

Spanish missions sought to promote to Native Americans the tenets of agriculture and Catholicism. This was often attempted by forcing Native peoples together to close quarters around the mission. This led to a high death toll as diseases spread rampant from the Spanish to the Native peoples.
