They used to kill falcons and owls because there was an act in 1918(or 1919) that stated that you couldn't kill(hunt) birds (only specific ones you could in a certain seson and only with a licence) to protect them in migrating season. This act didn't protect falcons and owls so they were killed alot because they were the only legal option. Hope that helpes!

This is because they were known to hurt a homo sapiens pets. This made humans very defensive towards these species.
