How does a prism break light into its colors?

Prisms break white light and disperse it into colors because of the different frequencies present in colors. The refractive index inside the prism separates the colors based on their frequency since every color has a different frequency. Each color that makes up a part of the white light beam gets bent slightly different, allowing us to see all of the colors in the rainbow.
